Workers block Nabinagar-Chandra road as salaries remain unpaid for 4 years

Former workers of Lenny Fashion and Lenny Apparels has blocked the Nabinagar-Chandra road in Savar, demanding payment of outstanding salaries.
According to workers, both the factories were closed four years ago with workers being owed wages. However, they have not received any of these due wages till date.
The protesters took position in front of DEPZ around 7:30am, gradually halting traffic on both sides of the road.
“The factory owes me Tk 44,000, including a month’s salary and other dues. Though the factories were closed four years ago, they have not given us any money, violating set dates for payment,” said Md Islam, a former worker of Lenny Apparels.
According to Sarwar Alam, superintendent of Ashulia Industrial Police-1, the workers will receive the payments after the factories are sold off. Lenny Apparels was sold in May while the other one has been put up at multiple auctions. However, it has not been sold yet.
The workers were promised their outstanding amounts by November 30. However, the workers are unsure if they will get the payment on that day. Therefore, they took to the streets, he said, adding the police in the area are trying to control the situation.
“The outstanding payments for workers at both factories will be cleared after Lenny Fashion is sold as there are legal complications. The dues will be cleared as soon as the factory is sold,” said BEPZA Executive Director Anwar Parvez.
Meanwhile, the workers said they won’t leave the streets till their dues were cleared, said SP Sarwar.
